At age 72, I am planning to walk across American to bring awareness of how exercise etc. can help bring about a healthier heart and vascular system, lower blood pressure, etc., and to raise funds, as well, for the American Heart Association. I welcome you to follow me on my journey! My plan for 2010 is to walk from Lewes, DE to St. Louis, MO or further if possible. In 2005 I was leading a sedentary life and weighed 201 lbs. I started walking and then running and lost 36 lbs, significantly lowered my blood pressure, my bad cholesterol, and raised my good cholesterol equally. My journey will commence on or about April 30th. Help the A.H.A. by donating thru the web site: Michianaheartwalk.kintera.org/johnwalksamerica. If all goes well I hope to be in St. Louis sometime in September 2010.

Tuesday. July 20th

Several things come to mind: I keep hearing, on the news, about diet drugs, their dangers, their ability to make people lose weight and so on. I think that people do not need these drugs, they need will power to make changes in their lives, they need to not rely on artificial means to do the job that they themselves need to do. It is similar to part of the message put forth in the Bible Study session I attended last Sunday: Sometimes when we are faced with a difficult task, or a difficult decision we find a way to escape into a place where we do not have to do what is required to resolve the situation. We can escape by sitting down in front of the TV and letting our minds become occupied with the programs offered. I am guilty of this on many occasions. We can escape by expecting a short and painless remedy to our problems. Not putting forth the energy necessary to attain our goals. Losing weight is a hard process, it requires dedication and resolve. You cannot expect to lose weight merely thinking about it or by taking drugs to bypass the natural way to do so. Exercise and less calories in than calories out is a sure fire way to lose weight. My opinion! Works for me.

  1. I agree with you. We should avoid drugs if at all possible. The many drugs and chemicals from pharmaceutical companies are substances that human bodies have not evolved to handle, and they cause many problems.
