At age 72, I am planning to walk across American to bring awareness of how exercise etc. can help bring about a healthier heart and vascular system, lower blood pressure, etc., and to raise funds, as well, for the American Heart Association. I welcome you to follow me on my journey! My plan for 2010 is to walk from Lewes, DE to St. Louis, MO or further if possible. In 2005 I was leading a sedentary life and weighed 201 lbs. I started walking and then running and lost 36 lbs, significantly lowered my blood pressure, my bad cholesterol, and raised my good cholesterol equally. My journey will commence on or about April 30th. Help the A.H.A. by donating thru the web site: Michianaheartwalk.kintera.org/johnwalksamerica. If all goes well I hope to be in St. Louis sometime in September 2010.

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

First, let me wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July, (Independence Day). Let none of us forget our past, our freedom, and not take for granted our families, friends, and those who died for this great land. Take the time to walk around and see the beauty of this gracious land. It is hard to see at 70 mph. Take time to talk with the people. Take time to reflect. In the process of walking about you will not only see what you might miss otherwise, but you will help yourself in the process. Walking is good exercise. Exercise is a proven method, along with a sensible diet, to reduce weight, reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol. I am living proof of these facts. I am now at 156 lbs. Walked a short 3 1/2 miles this morning with Shelly, who held up well. I still am not sure that she can walk 15 to 20 miles a day. God bless America!
