At age 72, I am planning to walk across American to bring awareness of how exercise etc. can help bring about a healthier heart and vascular system, lower blood pressure, etc., and to raise funds, as well, for the American Heart Association. I welcome you to follow me on my journey! My plan for 2010 is to walk from Lewes, DE to St. Louis, MO or further if possible. In 2005 I was leading a sedentary life and weighed 201 lbs. I started walking and then running and lost 36 lbs, significantly lowered my blood pressure, my bad cholesterol, and raised my good cholesterol equally. My journey will commence on or about April 30th. Help the A.H.A. by donating thru the web site: Michianaheartwalk.kintera.org/johnwalksamerica. If all goes well I hope to be in St. Louis sometime in September 2010.

Wednesday, May 12

I walked 19 miles on the towpath, from Brunswick, MD to Shepardstown, WV, passing through Harper's Ferry and the Antietam Battlefield. Ended up at Shepardstown just a few minutes before the Potomac River turned upside down and fell from the sky (it was coming down in torrents!).
Tomorrow I intend to be back on the towpath. The towpath runs from Georgetown (DC) 184 1/2 miles NW - it's northern terminus is Cumberland, MD. I will be getting off of it before then!

I decided to get off the ADT for a little while due to the traffic on the roads, the noise and the fumes. A lot of the routing along this area is hazardous and not recommended! You'd have to have no fear of death to walk the ADT in this area!
