At age 72, I am planning to walk across American to bring awareness of how exercise etc. can help bring about a healthier heart and vascular system, lower blood pressure, etc., and to raise funds, as well, for the American Heart Association. I welcome you to follow me on my journey! My plan for 2010 is to walk from Lewes, DE to St. Louis, MO or further if possible. In 2005 I was leading a sedentary life and weighed 201 lbs. I started walking and then running and lost 36 lbs, significantly lowered my blood pressure, my bad cholesterol, and raised my good cholesterol equally. 3 1/2 miles with Shelly this AM. Hope to find the time to do either more walking today or biding. Not sure which, time allowing. This afternoon I did find time to ride my bike, for an hour and a half. Then I went to the track at the Jr. High (Old High School) and ran a quarter, walked a quarter, ran a quarter, and walked another quarter mile. I am trying to get back into running, I have had a hard time with my lungs since my bout with pneumonia back in the winter of 09. But I have faith that with some work I will be able to run a 5 K in under 30 minutes again. Goals, you must set goals, and they should be realistic. For instance, I know I will never run a 5 K in 25 minutes nor will I run a 10 K in under 60 minutes. Take your self out for a walk, or a ride, or a jog. Off the couch! You will be happy you did. Be good to your fellow man and, to be politically correct, your fellow woman as well. Again, you will be happy you did.
